Officially opened in 1919 under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Glen College of Agriculture is one of South Africa's oldest and most respected agricultural institutions, with a century-long history of providing theoretical and practical training aligned with the South African Qualification Authority's National Qualification Framework.

Academic Programmes

Our Disciplines

Animal Production

Covers the essentials of anatomy, physiology, nutrition, breeding, and genetics across farm animals, paired with practical livestock management in beef, dairy, poultry, pig, and small stock production. It incorporates animal health, cultivated pastures, and project-based animal husbandry.

Agribusiness

Integrates agricultural economics, marketing, and financial management with modern skills in end-user computing, artificial intelligence, statistics, data analytics, and academic communication. It also delivers training in farm water reticulation, mechanisation, maintenance, extension, and entrepreneurship.

Crop Production

Encompasses soil sciences, soil classification, agricultural botany, plant nutrition, and plant breeding and genetics. Students engage in practical agronomy, land use planning, vegetable and fruit production, crop protection, and project-based plant husbandry.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Diploma in Agriculture

A 3-year practical-oriented qualification producing prospective farmers and production managers with capabilities to manage farming enterprises.

Animal Production Stream

Livestock management, animal nutrition, breeding & genetics, health, beef, dairy, poultry, pig & small stock production.

Crop Production Stream

Agronomy, soil sciences, agricultural botany, plant nutrition, crop protection, vegetable & fruit production, and land use planning.

Glen Farm - 4,619 Hectares

The Farm unit is responsible for maintaining and providing the facilities for Research and Training. It plays an increasing role in housing and provisioning of practical hands-on training for students and interns.
